Prozac – why it is used

It is primarily used in the treatment for depression. The symptoms for the depression include change in sleep habits, appetite and coordination. It is also used in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder which is an obsession that causes a compulsive act to be done over and over again in order for a person to relieve their anxiety. Prozac can also be used in the treatment of panic disorders. The symptoms for panic attacks include chest pain, rapid heartbeat, sweating, trembling and a shortness of breath. People with intense phobias or panic disorders have higher chances of getting panic attack.

The most important facts to be considered about Prozac is the fact that its been serious and on occasion fatal reactions for those taking it along with other antidepressant drugs that are referred to as MAO inhibitors. it can also occur if Prozac is discontinued right before a person starts taking an MAO inhibitor. A person has to wait fourteen days after taking an MAO inhibitor before using Prozac and should wait five or more weeks after stopping Prozac before taking any MAO inhibitors. Prescription drugs can be taken only on consulting with the medical practitioner before taking Prozac.

It is very important to consult the doctor incase if you had heart attack, liver disease or diabetes. And if you had allergic reactions to similar products such as Paxil or Zoloft then it is probably not a good idea to take Prozac. Prozac may cause drowsiness or impair your judgment it is a good idea to avoid operating heavy machinery or driving while you are on Prozac. If you become dizzy remember to notify your doctor.
